It was Nan's birthday on Friday and we went to Lowther Gardens in Lytham . It was a lovely day, we looked round the charity shops too. We used to go a lot when we were younger, my grandparents would take my cousins and my brother and I. We went to the same cafe we always used to eat at and I had Yorkshire pudding filled with mince, carrots, peas and chips, it was bigger than my head.

I've had this watercolour set since I was probably around 6 years old so its over 20 years old now and it's still going. My mum became really keen on watercolour and watercolour pencils and I wanted to be involved so she bought me my own set. I remember it well, I loved it. Sadly I had forgotten about my love for watercolour and the pallet had been cast aside, but recently I have rediscoverd my love. It is simple and beautiful and the depth of colour is exuberant.

I had four tomato plants growing over winter, you know, just to see if they would grow. They all flowered but only two tomatoes grew. I'm also drying out some chilies for the seeds, to plant.

For christmas Chris' brother Jon made us a bookshelf from new and salvaged wood. I am utterly impressed, it is beautiful and now we don't have piles of books in our living room anymore.

No Booze for 6 Months

Happy new year everyone!! After a very spectacular home fire work display on new years eve Chris, Gail and I went for a walk on Crosby beach, it was incredibly beautiful and a good start to our new year. A needed start to encourage our six months of no alcohol. Yes that's right, 6 whole months. For those of you that know me very well, you will know that I drink, a lot, too much, an unhealthy amount, unhealthy on my body and on my purse so the time has come to try life without the reassuring end of the day or sometimes afternoon alcoholic beverage that has been my friend for all these years. Its time to welcome an amazing collection of teas, all kinds of teas and tonic water with lime and imaginary gin in, yes, I have been imagining there is gin in it. I miss red wine, I miss an ice cold beer, I miss prosecco, I miss whiskey, I miss Guinness, I miss going to the pub and drinking something, anything alcoholic, but I'm doing it and I have now done 9 days when this day ends. The first few days (week) I had a headache, it seems to be easing off now, I think it was withdrawal symptoms. Chris and I went to the pub the other day, had a Becks Blue (ghastly things) we played battleships, it was pleasant, I feel I can get used to it. So Chris and I have given up and we are raising money for charity whilst doing it. I have created a charity page for you to donate to and we are hoping to raise £1000, half to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and half to Way Ahead Brain Tumour Research Campaign. We are joining our friend Gaz (A year sans beer) on his journey. You don't have to sponsor us much, Gaz has requested people donate the money they would spend on buying him a pint and Chris and I shall be asking the same, so if you can sponsor us and spread the word that would be great. Im sure I will keep you updated on how it's going and also check Gaz's blog out too, he has some funny experiences to read about.

In box 7 were 1x bag of sprouts 1x stick of sprouts, sprout overload, 7x mushrooms, 4x apples, 7x bananas, 6x carrots, 4x parsnips, 7x potatoes, 2x onions, 1x leek and also included was an extra bag of christmas apples, how lovely. We took some of our sprouts to Chris' brothers house and ate them with pigs cheek.

Veg-box 8 (this is the one we're still eating) were 6x apples, 3x clementines, 14x mushrooms, 1x broccoli, 3x bananas, 2x leeks, 2x onions, 8x carrots, 9x potatoes. So far I have made a spanish omelette with potatoes and leeks, not sure what else we will have.

This is my first time participating with The curiosity project and I will most definitely join in again. I love it, it's such a genius idea and who doesn't enjoy giving and receiving presents, especially to and from like minded people. It's basically a project that involved entering your details minus name and a little about yourself and then your information is passed to someone and you receive someone else's and you have a time frame in which to post your gift by with a £20 limit. I received a well thought out box, thank you sender, whoever you are . I hope the person I sent my parcel to enjoyed theirs. We'll see. Check out the curiosity project here xxo

Conker has now had her second injection which means she can go outside, she's still too small to leave alone but we took her for a little adventure on Sunday morning and she loved it. Went to Liverpool Cathedral yesterday, have you been?. If not, you need to, it's astounding, the architecture is timeless, it's contemporary but not uncomfortable in it's surroundings. I was in awe.We met a guy there who was drawing the stain glass windows and he had an excellent jumper with Charlie Chaplin on.

Our Day

Chris had the day off today as he's on call this weekend (rubbish) so we went out for the day. With us being new to the area we're still exploring and it's great fun. We started off at an amazing little cafe in Crosby that has goats, chickens and also sells crafts, called 'The Courtyard eatery & gift store' I can't put a link as they don't have a website, not that I can find, it was amazing, just look at the pie! The 'Pietanic' was a fish pie served with mash, peas and gravy.

We then headed off to Southport charity shopping and had a look in this place. I've been in before, it's an incredibly satisfying place to be for the obsessive hoarder in me. I literally don't know where to put my eye's and touching things, everything can be picked up and I must admit, I do smell the books, it's a sensory overload. I bought five books today my favourite is probably 'The gardeners everyday log book' closely followed by 'Everybody's letter writer' if not only for all the old advertisements in the back.

Then we went to pet world to pick up some kitten biscuits and also had a nosey around.

I made myself a new pair of earrings yesterday from gold and silver. They are the same style I do for some of my leather jewellery but with an extra circle on, in this case a gold circle. I love them, simple and elegant yet they make a statement.

Growing, drying my own, plus a charity shop find

I found this beauty in the streets on Southport, not literally, but along the main street there is charity shop after charity shop, it is a heavenly day out for the likes of me and there are some superb cafe's to stop at for cream teas. I was out with my good friend G of seventyseventyonedesign when I found this, £2.50 worth of great. I also got some great plates for 20p each, I'll get them up here soon xxo

I started a bit late this year but you see we didn't have a home for a month and then when we finally had somewhere to live the time to sow had passed but I thought, what the heck, I shall try anyway. I planted tomatoes, peas, pumpkins, salad leaves, various herbs and I am growing all bar pumpkins indoors. Pumpkins have flowered, but if they grow before frost set's in is anyone's guess. I hope so. But everything is doing pretty well. Conker has been chewing at the bay leaves that I am drying out, they are from the bay bush in the back garden xxo

Went to Manchester this week and took part in the 'Free For Arts Festival' that was going on around Manchester this week, helped out at the craft workshops that were going on at Fred Aldous .Whilst I was in Manchester I went to the Whitworth Art Gallery and had a look at their new exhibition 'Dark Matters', it was well worth a visit the installation piece by 'Brass Art' was my favourite.I also went to Islington Mill to see my good freind Anne in her studio working on her crafting for her business 'Don't Bitch Stitch', great work.I had a bottle of 'snapple' , best piece of advertising I've seen in ages xxo

Bad apple cricket

I went out with my lovely friend Natalie yesterday of 'of tea, lace and sailboats (and other lovely things)'. We studied together in my first year at university at Glyndwr University, which at the time was referred to as NEWI. We have since then both carried on to become part time (hoping to be full time) jewellers and freelance creatives.

I watched this film the other day by Czech film director Jaromil Jireš and the film is based on the book by surrealist writer Vítězslav Nezval .
I first became aware of the existence of the film through listening to a broadcast song 'Valerie' which you can watch in the blog post above, inspired by 'Valerie and her week of wonder'. The sound track to the film is amazingly surreal and fantastical, the film captures what I feel is a confusing time in a girls adolescence and projects it through imagery that boarders between fairy tale and dark fantasy. Definitely worth watching xxo

The Steyning Tea Rooms

I went to 'The Steyning Tea Rooms' today with Christopher and we had a ploughmans and some pea and mint soup, we shared. It was absolutely lovely, I very much recommend a trip there. It is about a half hour drive away from Brighton, near Shoreham-on-sea xxo
